Hello, all! We had our going away party last week, and got a lot of recurring questions. I thought I would answer them here!
So, what about the house?
We decided to rent out our house and were lucky enough to find a lovely family via sabbaticalhomes.com. McFarland is less than 10 miles from UW Madison, and we have visiting professor and her family renting our home for 10 months. We were able to rent it furnished, so we packed up our personal items, stored them in the basement, and handed over the keys!
What will you do with Snugs the Adventure Cat?
Snugs is an incredible adventure cat, and loves to hunt, camp, and kayak……but this would be a bit much for her. One of my incredible coworkers, Mel, offered to foster Snugs for the whole 10 months!! We feel so, so lucky – leaving Snugs has been one of the hardest part of this whole process.
What about your jobs?
Both Fred and I work for districts that allow for an unpaid leave of absences. So, we are both lucky enough to take one year away, and can return to positions within our districts. Actually, both our districts have been pretty supportive!
Will you homeschool the kids?
Yes and no. Both of the kids were given the option to homeschool. Michelle is, after all, a teacher in a project-based, integrated high school. Molly was in – she will be homeschooled for 7th grade, except for math, which she will take through Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WiVA). Teagan prefers a more traditional approach, and will be taking all her classes through WiVA. Her goal is to take all the classes a Freshman at McFarland High School would take so she won’t be behind her sophomore year. She’ll need to do her work asynchronously due to time differences, but she is up to the challenge!
