Here in Guatape, there are all types of exotic fruits. A few blocks down from our Airbnb there is a big fruit stand. There were so many fruits to try it was overwhelming, so I’m going to tell you about my top three favorite fruits!
First we have the purple passion fruit. The purple passion fruit is one of my favorites because it has a very tropical and tangy taste. The fruit is found in parts of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile. It is a purple and black oval shaped fruit and it is wrinkly and small. On the inside there are little pods of slime that you usually eat with a spoon. Each pod has a single seed inside of it, and the texture of the pods feel like boba. The pods are yellow and orange with black seeds. It is a soft fruit that smells like tropical fruit punch. And that is a little bit about the purple passion fruit.
The next fruit that I’m going to share with you is called a ciruela. The ciruela is a tasty fruit because it tastes like a plum.The first few bites taste sweet and sugary but then it slowly starts getting more sour and bitter. You can find this fruit in Venezuela, Ecuador, Columbia, Peru, and Brazil. The ciruela is a red fruit the size of a golf ball. It is a smooth fruit with a circular shape. On the inside there is a dark blood red color with a singular seed in the middle which makes it easy to pop in your mouth and spit out the seed because the seed does not stick to the fruit at all. The seed is light tan and is shaped like a raindrop. It doesn’t have much of a smell but has many tastes, making it a delicious fruit and an amazing snack.
And the last fruit that I would like to talk about is called the rambutan. This is a very special and different fruit. It doesn’t have much flavor but it is still very good. You can find this fruit in Colombia and Ecuador. The rambutan is a red fruit with long green spikes (not sharp at all) on the skin. It is shaped like an oval and the size of a ping pong ball. Inside is a pale white fruit that feels like flesh. It has a tan seed in the middle and has a pretty bland taste. It has an earthy yet sweet smell, and the skin peels off super easily making it an easy thing to have whenever you want.
And now you know about my three favorite fruits that we tried in Guatape, Colombia. If you ever come across one of these fruits and are looking for something different, I recommend that you try them.
